Principal Roger Vadeen believes his school’s recent award for exceptional student growth was a team effort. To drive the point home, he had several staff members join him during last week’s meeting with the Board of Education. The Board recognized Sunset Ridge Elementary as a recipient of the Governors Distinguished Improvement School Award handed out by the Colorado Department of Education.
“It’s a great honor to have our school recognized by the state of Colorado,” Vadeen said. “All kudos and all credit go to the Sunset Ridge Staff. It’s a hard working group we are committed to the kids of District 50 and committed to the reforms the Board has put forward.”
During the first week in December, Superintendent Pam Swanson joined Vadeen for the award ceremony in downtown Denver.
Sunset Ridge exceeded expectations on state measures of academic growth and met or exceeded expectations on efforts to close academic growth gaps over a three year period.
Sunset Ridge is already rated as one of District 50’s highest performing elementary schools. CDE rates Sunset Ridge as a “Performance” school.
