From the opening performance, a piano duet by Superintendent Pam Swanson and Board of Education Vice President Joe Davidek, to the final string instrument song by Westminster High School students, the first ever Westy Idol competition proved that this district has talent.
In all, 21 students from schools across the District showed their stuff during a night of song, dance and comedy. The event was held Thursday night in the Joanna Ramsey Theatre at Westminster High School.
In addition to highlighting the talents of performers across the District, the competition raised money for a performing arts scholarship. Organized by Metz Elementary Principal Claudette Trujillo and Andre Rodriquez, the Director of the CenterStage Theatre Company at Westminster High School, the event surpassed all expectations.
There is already talk about next year’s event.
Judges Pam Swanson, Max Math, Steve Sandoval, Dino Valente, Kiffany Kiewiet and Joe Davidek were joined by the studio audience in a vote to determine the winners.
