Dear Families of Sunset Ridge PK-8 Students,

We hope that your child is doing well with their school issued Chromebook.  We are able to personalize learning for our students through the use of educational software and learning applications (apps).  Your child is assigned to work on tasks and projects by their learning level.  Your child will be able to access any website that is assigned to them by their teachers.  However, our students can also access websites that are not part of our curricular programming.  As we all should know, there is a lot on the internet that is not suitable for viewing by children.  To that end, the district has put some controls and filters on our Chromebooks that make it hard for our students to access inappropriate content, but anything can happen.  We ask that parents routinely inspect their children’s Chromebooks and frequently monitor their use on the internet. 

One thing that we also ask parents to monitor on your child’s Chromebook are the pictures that your child downloads or takes using the camera built into the Chromebook.  We cannot disable the camera and students could use the camera to take pictures.  We ask that parents view any pictures that students have taken using the camera and delete them.  Remind your child that the Chromebook is to be used ONLY for educational purposes and that taking random pictures is not allowed.  We thank you for your efforts to help your child use his/her Chromebook to promote learning and for your help to monitor your child’s internet activities.  

What Parents Can Do:

• Set daily limits for how long your child uses the internet and the Chromebook.
• View online app and internet browser usage.
• Let your child know they only have permission to go on apps and websites that you approve.
• View your child’s internet browser history and let your child know that they are not allowed to erase their internet browser histories.

Esperamos que a su hijo le esté yendo bien con el Chromebook proporcionado por la escuela. Podemos personalizar el aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes mediante el uso de software educativo y aplicaciones de aprendizaje (apps). A su hijo se le asigna trabajar en tareas y proyectos según su nivel de aprendizaje. Su hijo podrá acceder a cualquier sitio web que le asignen sus maestros. Sin embargo, nuestros estudiantes también pueden acceder a sitios web que no forman parte de nuestra programación curricular. Como todos deberíamos saber, hay muchas cosas en Internet que no son adecuadas para que las vean los niños. Con ese fin, el distrito ha puesto algunos controles y filtros en nuestros Chromebooks que dificultan que nuestros estudiantes accedan a contenido inapropiado, pero cualquier cosa puede pasar. Pedimos a los padres que inspeccionen periódicamente los Chromebooks de sus hijos y controlen con frecuencia su uso en Internet.

Una cosa que también les pedimos a los padres que controlen en el Chromebook de su hijo son las imágenes que su hijo descarga o toma con la cámara integrada en el Chromebook. No podemos desactivar la cámara y los estudiantes pueden usar la cámara para tomar fotografías. Les pedimos a los padres que vean las fotos que los estudiantes hayan tomado con la cámara y las eliminen. Recuérdele a su hijo que el Chromebook debe usarse SOLAMENTE con fines educativos y que no se permite tomar fotografías al azar. Le agradecemos sus esfuerzos para ayudar a su hijo a usar su Chromebook para promover el aprendizaje y su ayuda para monitorear las actividades de Internet de su hijo.

Lo que los padres pueden hacer:

• Establezca límites diarios para el tiempo que su hijo usa Internet y el Chromebook.

• Ver la aplicación en línea y el uso del navegador de Internet.

• Hágale saber a su hijo que solo tiene permiso para acceder a aplicaciones y sitios web que usted aprueba.

• Ver el historial del navegador de Internet de su hijo y hacerle saber que no puede borrar su historial del navegador de Internet.
