About the ELC at Gregory Hill!
The Early Learning Center (ELC) at Gregory Hill is a preschool program that serves at-risk students in Westminster Public Schools. The program has been in existence for 25 years with the goal of providing developmentally appropriate preschool services to the children of Adams County. Our school serves 300 preschool students who attend four days a week for three hours a day per Colorado Preschool Program guidelines. Our school meets and exceeds all Colorado Division of Child Care's basic licensing guidelines.
Thanks to the generosity of WPS voters and the passage of a mill levy override in 2018, extensive renovations are underway at the Gregory Hills facility.
The goals of our program are closely aligned with our mission of “Building a Positive Foundation to Learn, Live, Play, and Prepare for Kindergarten.” We provide a high-quality, play-based preschool program that prepares the whole child for success in elementary school. It is also our goal to empower our parents with programs and information in their native languages to be advocates for their children as they enter school. Research shows the benefit of positive parent involvement that will positively impact their child's success in school.
In Westminster Public Schools, our Competency Based System focuses on student learning and achievement of each child individually, and students progress at their own pace. Our school focuses its curriculum on the mastery of the readiness level, which is aligned with Colorado School Readiness and the Colorado Early Learning and Development guidelines.
Our school also offers several unique programs and learning opportunities for our students:
- Parent volunteers have continued a take-home book program for all of our students.
- All preschool classrooms implement the Incredible Year's social skills curriculum on a weekly basis in the classroom.
- Our literacy curriculum is designed for the common core standards, which include Little Treasures in preschool and Reading Wonders in elementary.
