    Principal - Russ Warwick

    Mr. Warwick has been an educator in Westminster Public Schools since 2002. He began his career as a literature teacher at Westminster and Ranum High School and transitioned to assistant principal of Hodgkins Elementary school in the 2010. In 2013, Mr. Warwick became the principal of Westminster Elementary school, which underwent it’s transformation to Westminster Academy for International Studies in 2017. Over his tenure, Mr. Warwick has lead the building as it grew from a neighborhood elementary school into a prek-8 magnet school, offering a study abroad experience for students as well as Mandarin and Spanish electives from native speakers. During his time at WAIS, the school has gone from a “Priority Improvement” rating to “Performance” rating from the Colorado Department of Education, and has maintained this rating. The school has been awarded the CDE Center of Excellence Award for its high growth in 2017 and regularly is one of the top performing schools in WPS.

    Mr. Warwick is entering his 11th year as principal and is pursuing his Ed.D in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado this year.

    Assistant Principal - Karina Costas

    Karina Costas joined Westminster Public Schools in 2012 after serving as an educator in Puerto Rico for over a decade.  During her time in education, Ms. Costas has worked as a teacher, instructional coach, math interventionist, and administrator. Additionally, Karina Costas is a certified Project-Based Learning (PBL) coach and trainer for the district.

    Ms. Costas is passionate about supporting all students, families, and teachers and believes that the school community should be an inclusive and co-constructed environment that values and supports individual strengths. She is working toward completing her EdD in Leadership for Educational Equity, Mathematics Education. 

    Ms. Costas is excited to begin her fifth year as Assistant Principal at WAIS in the 2023-2024 school year.
