Principal - Russ Warwick
Welcome Back WAIS Families!
My name is Russ Warwick and this is will be my eighth year as the principal of this building. I can hardly believe it!
My career starting in Westminster Public Schools in 2002 where I began as a summer school literature teacher and long term substitute. I was then hired at Ranum High School as a literacy teacher and joined Westminster High School in 2006. In my seven years in the classroom I served on the building leadership team, the English Department Chair and the AVID Coordinator. In 2010 I joined the Hodgkins Elementary school team as the Assistant Principal and moved to the interim principal position in 2012.
In the 2012-13 school year I was hired as the principal of Westminster Elementary School and have overseen the school’s transition from ‘Westy El’ to Westminster Academy for International Studies, a K-8 Performance School and one of the top preforming innovation schools in the district!
I am thrilled to begin our fifth year as “Westy Academy!” Our trajectory as a school is straight up and we show no signs of slowing. Thank you so much for entrusting your student’s safety and education to me. It is an honor to serve and I look forward to working with all.
Assistant Principal - Karina Costas
My name is Karina Costas and I am the Assistant Principal at Westminster Academy for International Studies!
I have been in education for eighteen years working as a teacher, coach, and administrator. Most recently, I spent seven years at Westminster High School. At Westy, I worked as a Math teacher and as an Instructional Coach and Interventionist. During this time, I worked with the Math, Science, and CTE (Career and Technical Education) departments on improving instructional practices and design and implementation of data-based intervention within our competency-based system. I also served as a Project-Based Learning (PBL) coach for the high school and PBL trainer for the district.
I am looking forward to working with the incredible staff at Westminster Academy and our wonderful families.
