District 50 Adds 52 New Teachers
District 50’s teaching class of 2013 represents, “the best of the best.” That analysis came from Human Resources Director, Kirk Leday who welcomed them to the District during a breakfast on Monday, August 5.
In all, 52 teachers were hired from a pool of more than 2700 applicants.
New teachers arrived in the District one week before their colleagues so they could get up to speed on how the District operates and better understand D50’s Competency Based System.
Leday interjected some humor in his remarks telling teachers, “I know you may be a little nervous, even a little afraid at this point but you have already signed your contracts.” He added, "Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared."
Superintendent Pamela Swanson welcomed the new teachers to the District telling them,” this is a district, a community, where hard work is expected, noticed and respected and where innovation is embraced and encouraged. Keep that in mind and you will thrive in this environment.”
Christy Dodd, Executive Director of the District 50 Education Foundation, told the new teachers about the Foundation’s work and explained how it supports the work of innovative teachers by funding Creativity Grants.
Welcome to District 50’s newest teachers!
