Ranum Students Step up to Help Food Drive
Needy families in the Westminster community have some extra food this holiday season thanks to students at Ranum Middle School.
The students collected more than 3,000 cans and non-perishable items in November to distribute to those who need help putting enough food on the table. The students more than tripled their goal.
The food was donated to Westminster F.I.S.H. (Fellowship in Serving Humanity) which both collects and distributes the food.
F.I.S.H. began in England in the early 1960’s as a program to encourage neighbors to look out for one another. The name comes from the fish symbol that early Christians sketched in the sand to identify and help one another. F.I.S.H now has more than 1,000 chapters around the world.
The top four classrooms in terms of donations won a pizza party while the school hosted a dance to celebrate their own generosity.
