Hodgkins Student, Family Profiled on ‘Feel Good Friday’
Life has been hard for Aliana Maestes, but viewers of FOX31 news found out last week that her school and community have been there for her in the good times and bad.
In the summer of 2012, Alianna was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome a rare, serious disorder in which your skin and mucous membranes react severely to a medication or infection. Because of her condition, she has rarely been able to attend classes at Hodgkins Elementary.
Last year, the District provided Alianna with an iPad 2 so she could FaceTime with her classmates and attend school through video conferencing. Still, the cost of internet service and other financial challenges have impacted the family.
That’s when Community Liaison Ruth Blan nominated Alianna and her family for the station’s “Feel Good Friday” award and the help that comes with it.
