• Art on Display at Westminster High School

Paintings, drawings and sculptures will fill the upper hallway of Westminster High School next week as art students display their work in preparation for the IB Art Show.

The IB Art Show exhibits outstanding student portfolios.

Westy High art instructor Mark Kreger organizes the event each year. “The heart of the IB art making process centers on making art with a critical eye towards global, political, social and economic issues. And using art as a vehicle to comment on those issues” said Kreger. “It’s a way to spread the fine art culture in Westminster”.

Students are also thrilled by the experience.

Artist and Westy senior Rebecca Maestas believes the exhibit not only allows her to display her talents, but also to send a message. “My art is inspired by topics that 17 year olds don’t want to think about. Things like feminism, substance abuse and immigration,” said Maestas. “The exhibit lets me demonstrate that in our hallways.”

The IB Art Show officially opens February 28th from 4:30 – 7:00 PM on the second floor of Westminster High School.
