Sunset Ridge Receives ‘Foundations for Great Schools’ Award
A coalition of five private Colorado foundations has awarded Sunset Ridge Elementary $30,000 to support continued student achievement efforts. The money will be used to increase the use of technology in the school to buy more Chromebooks and charging stations for student use.
“It is rare in education for an organization to give money to a school, with no strings attached,” said Principal Roger Vadeen. “The Sunset Ridge staff is honored to be recognized for our achievement with students.”
In all, Foundations for Great Schools recognized a total of 29 Denver metro-area public schools and awarded a total of $500,000 in grants.
“The schools we are recognizing are doing remarkable work despite challenging circumstances and limited resources and we commend them for the outstanding results they have achieved,” said Tom Kaesemeyer, Executive Director of the Fox Family Foundation and coalition member.
Award recipients were selected from a 12-district area based on a variety of factors, including academic performance and growth, high percentage of students qualifying for the Federal free and reduced lunch program, school leadership, culture, and instructional effectiveness. Elementary, middle, high school, public district, and public charter were all considered.
