Crown Pointe, STEM Academy Shine in Destination Imagination Competition
Students from Crown Pointe Academy and Colorado STEM Academy advanced to state-level competition this past weekend in the annual Destination Imagination regional tournament held in Aurora. They will compete against the brightest kids from around the state on April 25th at the Auraria Campus.
Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that works to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. The competitions focus on all aspects of the creative process from the hard sciences to improvisation and the visual arts. Teams from across the world take part in DI, working to win a spot at the Global Finals held in Knoxville Tennessee in May.
The competitors were also recognized this week at the Board of Education meeting.
Here is a rundown on this year’s teams:
The Scary Jumping Dragon Sharks (K, 1st & 2nd) from Crown Pointe gave a wonderful performance in their non-competitive event.
Coaches - Shelly Hora and Molly Knutson
Team members - London Lacert, Luke O’Connor, Patrick Roe, Karen Chapman, Donovan Hora, Peyton Lacert and Chloe O’Connor.
Dangerous Ideas (3rd & 4th) from Crown Pointe beat twelve other teams to take 1st place in the Elementary Level of the Feary Tales challenge. They advance to state competition.
Coaches - Gina and Karin Quintanilla
Team members - Georgia Aragon, Sarah Chapman, Matthew Quintanilla and Cori Roe.
Hippopotomonstrosity (6th) from Crown Pointe took 1st place in the Middle Level of the Feary Tales challenge. In addition, they were honored with a prestigious Renaissance Award for outstanding skill in technology and engineering. They advance to state competition.

Team members - Carlos Ramos, Joe Quintanilla, Cora Pluess, Kenny Hora, David Crosby, Jaden Cornett and Asher Aragon.
Creation Dragons (Elementary) from Colorado STEM Academy competed in the Fine Arts Challenge of the Feary Tales event.

Team members - Jack Tyler,Breya Garcia,Luke Norman,Eben Hershberger,Caitlyn Questionati,RileyWeiz,Ella Arnold
Brandi and the Boys (Middle School) from Colorado STEM Academy won first place in the “Lose to Win” strategy challenge. They advance to state competition.
