Girls’ B-Ball Team Honored at State Capitol
The Westminster High School Girls Basketball team finished its history-making season this week under the gold dome of the state capitol. State Senator Jessie Ulibarri recognized the team for winning the school’s first ever league championship during a season that saw them win 15 consecutive games.
Team members were invited onto the Senate floor and received a plaque recognizing their efforts. They were also honored by the Board of Education during this week’s meeting.
Athletic Director Glenda Bates said the team’s motto for this year was “Unfinished Business” because they felt they didn’t live up to their potential last year. “This team was not lead by any one player,” said Bates. “Each night they came to depend on one another night after night.”
The Wolves won the East Metro Athletic Conference (EMAC) title by going undefeated in conference play and advancing to the state playoffs. They lost their playoff game to Mountain Vista finishing the season at 17-7.
The team will hang the school’s first ever league championship banner in the gymnasium during the spring pep assembly.
