• Meet Karina Costas, Elks Teacher of the Year

When you visit Westminster High School Math Teacher Karina Costas’ classroom you find a lot of smiles, laughter and, more importantly, a lot of learning.

Karina is one of the three Westminster Elks Teachers of the Year.

Karina’s journey to Westminster High School is an interesting one. She came to the District via Puerto Rico where she spent most of her life, learning how to teach and becoming immersed in the culture. She believes her time in her native country has given her an insight into working with minority students at WHS.

WHS Principal Kiffany Kiewiet nominated Karina, citing her eagerness to help all students with her “generous and giving spirit.” She was also praised for conducting AP study sessions on Saturdays to assist students who are learning higher level math.

Hodgkins Elementary P.E. Teacher Tim Woodruff was profiled in the last edition of the Insider and Hidden Lake Language Arts Teacher Zoe will be featured next month.
