TV News Focuses on D50 Food Program
As Congress debates the School Nutrition Program and whether to make changes to the free and reduced meal plans, two local TV stations profiled District 50’s food program to examine how healthy meals impact student learning.
KCNC Channel 4 visited Tennyson Knolls Elementary while KDVR Channel 31 visited Flynn Elementary. At both schools, students and staff told reporters they like the program just the way it is.
Critics of the current program are asking for, among other things, changes in the nutrition content of the food children are receiving. There is an ongoing debate about whether the move to healthier standards is cost effective.
