WHS Students Partner with Congressman Perlmutter for Documentary
Final edits are now underway for an extraordinary film project involving students from Westminster High School and the office of Congressman Ed Perlmutter.
The documentary “Medic!” will debut on Friday, May 20th in the Joanna Ramsey Theatre at Westminster High School. The film will eventually be screened at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and provide a lasting record as part of the Veterans History Project.
The film captures the stories and memories from five combat medics who served their country during recent conflicts.
“The stories they told were simply stunning,” said Chris Williams who teaches the Video Cinema Arts program at Westminster High School and helped produce the film. “At any time, we were laughing, horrified, amazed or crying. That these men and women were willing to open up to our production and interview crews is a testament to their strength and spirit.”
Perlmutter and Principal Kiffany Kiewiet videotaped their closing comments for the film on March 25th with Perlmutter then sticking around to talk with students about the project. “This is important work,” he told the students. “In many cases these interviews are really the first time these people have shared their story.”
“Medic!” is the 4th film for the Library of Congress project that Perlmutter has sponsored, his first with high school students.
