WHS Basketball Teams Share Skills with Kids
The Westy High School gym was filled with red faces and wide grins through winter break as once again both the girls and boys basketball teams joined forces with Hyland Hills to bring kids a fun and educational time on the courts.
Kids from all ages, some even accompanied by their parents, eagerly showed their enthusiasm and skills through this three-day camp that encompassed everything from basic skills to friendly team competitions. Each activity and group was led by one or more high school student “coach”, all supervised by the boys’ varsity coach, Jim Montijo.
This experience is aimed at encouraging physical activity, team building, and of course, strengthening kids’ basketball skills and confidence on the court. Some of the young players of today could be the WHS stars of the future.
The camp also provided leadership and teaching skill for the teenagers.
To top off an already fun time, Hyland Hills donated prizes to the winners of certain games and competitions held throughout the camp.
Below are the highlights of the event.
