• Vote Now for One Book 4 Colorado


    One Book

    Three books have been chosen as finalists for the state’s One Book 4 Colorado program and now is your opportunity to select the winner. The selected book will be given away to over 75,000 four year olds across the state.


    Through the end of the month Coloradans can visit onebook4colorado.org to cast their vote for one of the three finalists:


    What Will We Build Today? by Katherine Durgin-Bruce

    Worms for Lunch? by Leonid Gore

     Mouse Mess by Linnea Riley.

    Visitors to the site can watch Colorado community leaders reading the books in both English and Spanish. Among the readers, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.


    One Book 4 Colorado started in 2012 to ensure that young readers, especially those from low income families, have access to books to they can build their literacy skills so they are ready to read by the time they get to Kindergarten.


    According to the program’s website:


    “For low-income families, access to quality books and early literacy efforts are even more important as research shows that children in low-income families tend to have fewer books in their homes and are exposed to 30 million fewer words before the age of four than their higher-income peers.” 

    Once the winning book has been selected, it will be distributed across the state of Colorado from April 17th to May 1st so that families can read together. What’s Up WPS will providing details about where families can get their copy.
