    Camerata and Chamber Orchestras

    Description:

The Chamber and Camerata Orchestras will serve as Westminster High School's premier orchestral ensembles and will soon serve as examples to other orchestras in Colorado and throughout the US. Both orchestras will operate in an atmosphere similar to a professional setting. Members of the Camerata and Chamber Orchestras will combine frequently as part of the gigging team, will perform pieces such as Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus," and will perform at CHSAA or other state competitions. Camerata and Chamber Orchestra will have combined sectionals/rehearsals several times each month after school or in the evenings. It is expected that every member attend these rehearsals. In addition, while not mandatory, private lessons outside of our WHS program are welcomed and encouraged.

An exemplary Camerata/Chamber Orchestra member has good attendance in all classes and previous concerts, has passing (preferably exemplary) grades in each of his/her classes, is open to suggestions for improvement, is respectful and courteous to other people, seeks out additional performance opportunities, and is able to be both a team player and a soloist.

Chamber Orchestra’s technical and musical expectations will be pre-collegiate in nature. To that end, as a member of Chamber Orchestra, each musician should expect to practice a minimum of 6 hours of private practice per week on technique as well as solo, small ensemble, and orchestral repertoire, and should expect to have weekly private lessons and additional rehearsals after school typically totaling 6 hours. Curriculum will prepare students to audition for the various honor orchestras and solo competitions both statewide and nationally. Whether or not you plan to pursue music at the college level, if you desire to exponentially improve your skills in the course of a year, this is the course for you.

Camerata Orchestra will serve as Westminster High School's elite ensemble for students who want a higher-caliber experience program with minimal expectations for private practice (30-60 minutes per week) and extra-curricular rehearsals (approximately 5 hours per month).

Members of both the Chamber and Camerata orchestras will be offered regular extracurricular performance opportunities as part of the gigging team. A Camerata Orchestra member should plan to participate in one or more gigs each month.
