    Welcome Back to School

Welcome to Sherrelwood Elementary School. As the building principal it is with great honor and pride that I welcome you to our school full of our dedicated faculty, parents and students and to be a part of the Tiger tradition.  I look forward to getting to know each of you as we work together to guide your child towards life long learning and achievement.  Please accept this message as the first step towards establishing a strong and effective working relationship between your home and Sherrelwood.

    COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION

We are very eager to begin year 12 implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) at Sherrelwood Elementary. We are excited that our students will be grouped by what they know and are able to do. They will be able to advance to the next level as soon as they are ready or receive more time and support if needed. Your child will be grouped and taught at their instructional/performance levels for all content areas.

At Sherrelwood Elementary School, we know that this school year will be one of partnerships and achievement. Please join with us to make this experience a remarkable one.  All of us at Sherrelwood Elementary look forward to becoming a community of learners together.

    With Tiger Pride,

    Cindy Davis

    Sherrelwood Principal

In case of a school closure, your child will be prepared to have school online by using the Chromebook on Zoom and Empower.

    1.    One document is the Chromebook Agreement that describes your responsibilities for having the Chromebook in your home.
    2.    The other document on the last page is a Protection Plan, which is insurance in case your child damages the Chromebook.

You will need to read both documents and go online and sign that you agree with the expectations and responsibilities. A link will be provided at the end of this email to sign online (you will not fill out the paper form).
Please accept or Decline the Protection Plan that will cover the cost of a damaged Chromebook. This is optional but encouraged.

Please call the school if you have any questions at 303-428-5353
Students cannot take home a Chromebook until an agreement is filled out online.

Here is the Link for the Chromebook agreement:

This year, Sherrelwood is providing literacy videos for parents to use as they guide their children to become better readers and writers. Sherrelwood teachers have created instructional videos that give families strategies that can be used to help students as they read at home.

Sherrelwood is providing each student with two books at their guided reading level. This means that you may need to read the book along with your student. As you read with your student, please try one of the strategies that is given in one of the videos.

You may choose a video that your student’s classroom teacher made or another classroom teacher made. After watching the video with your student, try the strategy with the book that we have provided. You can also use the strategy with any other book that you choose.
