Two Fred Award Winners Honored

Jillian Spellman and Michael Linert are the two final FRED award winners for the 2018-19 school year, acknowledged for going the extra mile to help students reach their full potential.

The Fred award is given out quarterly and is named after a Colorado mail carrier profiled in the book “The Fred Factor” written by author Mark Sanborn. The national bestseller details how “passion in your work and life can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.”

In addition to being publicly recognized at the Board of Education meeting, recipients receive a copy of the book “The Fred Factor,” a lapel pin and an engraved trophy.

Families, community members and employees are invited to recognize a WPS employee who provides excellent customer service. The program will return in the fall.

Jillian and Michael were recognized earlier this month at the Board of Education meeting.

FRED Winner Jillian Spellman

Jillian, who works in Human Relations, was nominated by co-worker Keri Rule who wrote:

“Over the last few weeks I have asked for Jillian’s help with several ”under the wire” projects and she was always accommodating and kind. I appreciate that she takes time to help our department when deadlines are tight. A lot of Jillian’s work is behind the scenes but is crucial to the everyday function/success of our classrooms. Jillian gives great customer service and is always willing to go above and beyond to help in a timely manner.”

FRED Winner Michael Linert

Michael Linert is a WHS music teacher nominated by WHS Senior Felicia Garcia:

“Mr. Linert is an exemplary teacher who has gone exceedingly above what is expected from a teacher. Mr. Linert has not only helped me in finding what would be best for my career but also helped me through every step in completing collegiate preparations. He is an essential link that brings our WHS Orchestra program together and is always thinking about the students and the community in everything he does. If I could give him a Grammy award I would because he is truly amazing!”
