Note from Superintendent Swanson: Nov. 13, 2019

Dear Westminster Community,

This is our last What’s up WPS before Thanksgiving and I wanted to take a quick moment to wish you all a wonderful holiday and hope you find that same sense of gratitude this time of year that I do.State Rep Shannon Bird, Superintendent Swanson, Mayor Herb Atchinson

During our busy, hectic lives, it is so important to take a moment to reflect upon the gifts we have been given.

That point is always driven home to me during our annual Veterans Day Ceremony at John E. Flynn A Marzano Academy

I am so honored to be asked to speak to the students. When I look out at the young faces, it reminds me of how blessed I am to be Superintendent of a school district that values community and understands the importance of teaching young people to thank those who have sacrificed on their behalf.

It is also so meaningful to see a room full of veterans and get a chance to say thank you on behalf of everyone in WPS.

Speaking of gratitude.

Before Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, students, parents and WPS staff held a reception for outgoing Board of Education member Dino Valente. As many of you know, Dino is term-limited. Next week, Christine Martinez will be sworn into office, replacing Dino on the Board of Education.

During his eight years on the board, Dino has put in countless hours working on behalf of Westminster Public Schools and our children. He played a critical role in developing our Competency Based System (CBS), rebranding and renaming our district and helping to pass the mill levy override last year. Without his support and leadership, I don’t believe any of those important projects would have been successful.

Finally, I’m inviting you to Skyline Vista Elementary on December 9th, when we break ground on our new elementary school at 1 p.m. Look for further details in the weeks ahead and hope for good weather as we start a new chapter in the history of Westminster Public Schools. This is only possible because of the generosity of our taxpayers—still, another reason I am so grateful this Thanksgiving season.

Kindest regards,

Dr. Pamela Swanson

Superintendent of Schools
