CDE Honors Two WPS Schools

The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has honored the Colorado STEM Academy and Skyline Vista Elementary for their outstanding academic performance in the 2018-19 School Year.

Principal’s Brenda Martin and Zack White joined Superintendent  Pam Swanson at the special awards ceremony at the Colorado State Capitol on Monday, November 18.  Governor Jared Polis attended the ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the Colorado Department of Education.Zach White, Dr. Pam Swanson and Brenda Martin

Colorado STEM Academy was given the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award, which is awarded to schools that show exceptional student growth on statewide test results.  The school exceeded expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and met or exceeded expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.

“This is an impressive award for any school, but what is even more striking is to show that kind of growth in what is already a high achieving school,” said Swanson.  “This is the reason Colorado STEM Academy is so highly regarded.”

Skyline Vista received the Centers of Excellence Award, which is given to schools with high rates of growth among schools with a high at risk population.    Only 19 schools in the entire state received the award.

“Skyline Vista has set a high bar for student expectations and performance and it is nice to see that hard work recognized,” said Swanson.
