WPS Nutrition Services Expands Food Distribution Sites
Responding to the public’s need for help in dealing with food insecurity because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Westminster Public Schools Nutrition Services Department expanded its operations to two more locations this week.
Emergency food supplies are now available from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at six locations:
Westminster High School
Ranum Middle School
Shaw Heights Middle School
Colorado Sports Leadership Academy
Swim & Fitness Rec Center on Irving
Westminster Recreation Center at 104th and Sheridan Blvd
Free meals are available for all children 18 and under. Parents can pick up meals at any drive-through site and students do not have to be present to receive the food supplies. IDs are not required to receive food assistance.
According to an August 8 report in the Denver Post, one in three people in Colorado do not have enough to eat. Colorado’s economy is starting to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, but many families are still struggling to make ends meet.
A reminder that all Westminster Public Schools families are encouraged to complete an online free or reduced-price meal application if they have not already done so. The results of this application determine how much money WPS receives to support its food distribution programs as well as other academic programs.
