Westminster Public Schools unique effort to provide testing for both students and staff at Westminster High School on November 11 and 12 revealed that approximately one in 20 of the COVID-19 tests came back positive. Out of 404 tests of both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, 20 were found to have the highly contagious virus.
Since early in the school year, WPS has partnered with COVIDCheck Colorado to provide free testing to WPS employees twice a month. This marked the first time the district joined the organization in offering the nasal swab test to students.
The district is in communication with the non-profit group to provide expanded testing options after Thanksgiving and possibly into 2021. What’s Up WPS will keep you updated.
The high number of positive cases is consistent with what all district employees are experiencing. During a district-wide virtual meeting last week, more than 700 attendees were asked if they or someone in their family had contracted the virus. 20 percent answered yes.
