‘Celebrating Excellence!’ Awards Highlight Student Talents

Westminster Public Schools Celebrating Excellence competition went virtual for the 2020-21 year resulting in amazing work that showed a broad range of talents from students across the district.

Awards were handed out during a virtual celebration on April 15 that you can watch here.

140 entries were submitted in the following categories: Performing Arts, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Science, Technology, Engineering, Writing, Teaching, and Group Projects.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the district quickly determined that it would not be possible to hold a day-long, in-person event as was done in prior years. Instead, Dr. Steve Sandoval, Executive Director of Special Services and Jennifer Rizzo, coordinator of (PEDAL) Programming for Every Driven and Accelerated Learner developed a plan to have students submit their entries virtually so that everyone could see their work online.

A panel of judges selected the winners.

Winners were named in 20 categories across all grade levels with 5 grand prize winners.

Among the entries, a student film, What is Life? that has been submitted to the Breckenridge Film Festival.
