Note from Superintendent Swanson: April 21, 2021

Dear Westminster Community,

Our move to a new normal is taking a big step forward with the happy news that WPS will now be able to host a single outdoor graduation for the Westminster High School class of 2021. It will take place on Saturday, May 22 at 9 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.

Principal Kiffany Kiewiet tells me it was incredibly important to students that they be able to walk together, and they are thrilled by these new developments.

COVID-19 restrictions had originally required us to plan for two smaller ceremonies with limited seating for guests, however, new guidelines from state and county health officials are providing much more flexibility. Transmission rates are moving in the right direction and, with more and more people getting vaccinated every day, it looks like better days are ahead.

The class of 2021 has endured a year without many of the traditions that make the senior year so special and I am so proud of how they have persevered through these difficult times. These students are an example for all of us to follow.

Finally, now that the snow season has mostly passed (keep your fingers crossed), I want to share with you a funny graphic I shared with the WPS staff during a virtual meeting last month.

I think it captures how a lot of us feel as we head into the summer months.

Surviving Thriving

Thank you all.

Kindest regards,

Dr. Pamela Swanson

Superintendent of Schools
