About half of Westminster Public Schools students are enrolled in the district’s 12 days of extended learning and teachers and principals are going all out to make it special. The voluntary program runs through June 11 and provides an opportunity for students to make up for missed learning opportunities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Mesa Elementary, Ms McCartney’s class is building their learning around an Olympics theme with students ‘Going for the Gold’. Students have been placed into six groups, each of them representing a country: USA, Spain, Japan, Canada, China and France.
The Summer Olympics are scheduled for Japan later this summer.
The decision by WPS to offer extended learning has attracted a lot of attention.
