Two New Faces to Join Board of Education

New BOE members

Dan Orecchio, a Westminster Public School graduate and Aaron Martin, the husband of a WPS principal and father of two students in the district will join the Board of Education in November, replacing Ryan McCoy and Joe Davidek who were term-limited and unable to run for reelection.

Orecchio and Martin were the only candidates to gather the necessary signatures to appear on the ballot leaving the race uncontested. As set out by state statute, the Board of Education passed a resolution, canceling the November election, thus saving the district thousands of dollars in election costs. The two will be sworn into office on Tuesday, November 9.

Orecchio and his wife, Stephanie grew up in Westminster where they both graduated from Westminster High School in 1988. He went on to become a successful architect with offices in Westminster and Fraser, Colorado.

“I chose to run for the WPS Board because the District has tremendous momentum right now, especially with CBS (Competency Based System).” Orecchio said in an email. He added that there are issues down the road to be addressed. Among them, the fallout from COVID-19, underutilized facilities, expiring grants and longtime employees who will be retiring. “I would like to help the district rise to these challenges and overcome them. I also want to continue to be a part of the WPS family.”

Martin is married to Brenda Martin, the Principal of Colorado STEM Academy. He says his two children have thrived in the district and he is excited to give back to WPS. Martin works for AT&T in the TV Advertising Technology Division and hopes to bring his skills to the board room. “Technology is changing how we see the world every day and I want to bring my professional experience to the district,” he said. “I hope to help to create new opportunities for understanding how to leverage these opportunities.”

Plans are underway for an open house so the community can meet the two and share their thoughts and ideas.
