WPS Foundation Honored as Community Non Profit of the Year
The Westminster Chamber of Commerce has named the Westminster Public Schools Foundation as Community Non-Profit Business of the Year for its impact on the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are incredibly touched to be recognized by the Westminster Chamber,” said Executive Director Stephanie Baer. “Schools are often the heart of a community, and when COVID-19 hit, we needed to respond to our students and families' sudden and changing needs.”
Baer said that during the pandemic, many families who had never reached out for help in the past turned to the Foundation for assistance. With the support of generous individual and corporate donors as well as grants, the foundation raised nearly one million dollars to support pandemic-related needs. The support included food, cleaning supplies and wireless hot spots so that families could connect with the internet.
Through a partnership with Food for Hope, weekend bags of food were sent home with students in 16 of our schools.
“The Westminster Public Schools Foundation is proud to have played a role during this challenging time and hopes that our efforts made these difficult situations a little easier," said Baer.
