Joe Davidek and Ryan McCoy

Dear Westminster Public Schools Community,

Late Tuesday, we took a moment here in Westminster Public Schools to say a great big, “Thank you” to outgoing Board of Education Members Ryan McCoy and Joe Davidek.

The two are term-limited and will be replaced next month by Aaron Martin and Dan Orecchio who are just as committed to the success of Westminster Public Schools as Ryan and Joe. Aaron and Dan will join Christine Martinez, Max Math and Ken Ciancio on the board and I can assure all of you that we remain in good hands.

During Tuesday night’s board meeting I highlighted some of the major accomplishments that happened during Joe and Ryan’s tenure. It is a very long list. Here are just some of the highlights:

  • Passed a mill levy override
  • State Board of the Year
  • WPS off the accountability clock
  • Voice for Competency Based Education
  • New branding and name change for the district
  • Opening of Orchard Park Academy
  • Completion of building renovations
  • Opening of two Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Creation of Creative Arts Pipeline
  • Push for equity in education
  • Took on state status quo surrounding accreditation and funding

As I write this, I know Joe and Ryan are planning to share some thoughts during the meeting, and if you want you can go back and look at the replay of the meeting by clicking here. We also created a short video that captured some of the moments we all shared over the last eight years. That video is below.

Even though Ryan and Joe will no longer be on the board of education, they will continue to be a vital part of our future. If you see them on the street or in a school building, be sure to say thank you for a job well done.

Kindest regards,

Dr. Pamela Swanson

Superintendent of Schools
