Dr. Swanson at WHS Graduation

Dear WPS Community,

“A Generation of Learners!”

That is what I am calling our Westminster and Hidden Lake High School students who are graduating this year.

Many students in the Class of 2022 have spent their entire education in our Competency Based System (CBS). These students are acknowledged at their respective graduation ceremonies by wearing a bright green cord, along with their caps and gowns. Competency Based Education will serve them well in the days after graduation. During their time in Westminster Public Schools, they learned that education is about more than just memorization and test-taking. They know that understanding content and mastering subject matter counts not only in the classroom but in life.

The success of our high school students was on full display during last week’s Senior Awards Night, and I was thrilled to be a part of the ceremony. I want to thank our Westminster Public Schools Foundation and their partners for their generosity in funding almost $400,000 in scholarships. We have a complete recap of those scholarship awards in this edition of What’s Up WPS.

This week, we are closing out a school year that has tested all of us, and I am so proud of how our students, staff and families have responded. We found that returning to a “new normal” was not quite as easy as we hoped. I thank all of you for helping each other to persevere and get us to the finish line.

This summer, the administrative team and support staff will begin focusing on the 2022-2023 school year and continue our exciting work on Ranum Reimagined

We are also looking forward to seeing many of you at our Annual Back to School BBQ and Backpack Giveaway, currently scheduled for Saturday, August 6 at WHS Memorial Stadium.

I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing summer break. We look forward to the return of staff and students in August when everyone will be rested and reenergized for a brand-new school year.

It is an honor for me to lead the amazing WPS community!

Kindest regards,

Dr. Pamela Swanson
