Congratulations to the graduating students from Westminster High School and Hidden Lake High School!
Westy students will receive their diplomas on Saturday at the 1stBank Center and the following Thursday, Hidden Lake High School students will walk across the stage at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. In thinking about their graduations, I realized that I have literally grown up with these students. I was named superintendent in the same year they were entering Westminster Public Schools.
So much has happened to all of us during the past 12 years.
I have the great honor of speaking at both graduation ceremonies and it is always very moving for me to look out from the stage and see the students in their caps and gowns and their proud families and friends in the audience. I also marvel at the high school teachers, administrators, and staff who help make the day possible.
As we look to the summer break, WPS has created a summer guide full of ideas and activities for students and families. I hope you will visit the website and find innovative ways to help your children continue with their learning over the summer months. Westminster Public Schools has so many talented students and teachers who can engage with students in so many different ways. Whether it is athletics, academics, or arts, there is something for everyone.
I can vouch for the creativity and talent in WPS firsthand. On Tuesday morning, I dropped by the Metropolitan Arts Academy for an impromptu Jazz session with Mr. Levenson and his student musicians. It was a perfect moment during the hectic month of May to remember the joy of learning and the beauty of public education.
