Hodgkins Elementary Transitioning to Middle School
Fifth grade students who love Hodgkins Elementary won’t have to go anywhere, at least for a while.
Hodgkins Elementary, home to the newest and largest elementary school building in the district is adding a sixth grade class next fall, and will eventually expand to a full middle school offering a PK-8 opportunity for families in the neighborhood. Students who choose to go to the traditional middle school (most likely Scott Carpenter Middle School) will still have that option.
"This decision gives families more choices which is always a good thing,” said Principal Amber Swieckowski. "Many families like the idea of being able to drop their children off at just one location. We have the type of school that can serve many different needs."
At Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting, the Board renamed the school Hodgkins Leadership Academy, which highlights the school’s connection with the "Leader in Me" program. The program teaches and embraces the philosophies outlined in Steve Covey's 7 Habits for Highly Effective People.
Fifth grade students who have already enrolled in middle school will be contacted and have the opportunity to re-enroll as a sixth grader at Hodgkins Leadership Academy.
