The first day of school is always exciting, but for students at Mesa Elementary, their welcome back will be especially meaningful thanks to the help from their community.
On Aug. 3, 2018, volunteers from Lowe’s Home Improvementand Rebuilding Together Metro Denver spent the day refurbishing the outside of the school just before the first week of school. Mesa’s makeover has helped transform the look of the school into an inspiring focal point and place of pride for the community.
Nearly 75 volunteers were on hand to pitch in on the project, including employees from eight different Lowe’s stores across the Denver Metro area. Lowe’s also donated $15,000 worth of materials needed to complete this project. Volunteers completed a number of projects during the day such as painting the outside of the building, updating the playground with new colorful games for the students, and planted new landscaping on the north and south ends of the building.
This support and partnership was appreciated more than ever as schools and school districts across the state often have to make difficult funding decisions. Thanks to these dedicated organizations, the Mesa school community will be welcomed back to school with a bright new outside learning space.
