The Westminster Public Schools community is invited to a festive, holiday-themed groundbreaking for the new school at Skyline Vista Elementary.
In the spirit of the season, guests are encouraged to bring a small gift that can be shared with area children in need. The groundbreaking begins at 1:00 p.m.
The new PK-8 school is scheduled to be open in the fall of 2021 and will be built next to the existing Skyline Vista Elementary at 73rd and Zuni. Once the construction is complete, the existing building will be torn down. Engineers determined that needed repairs to the current building would be cost-prohibitive and in the long run it would be cheaper to build an entirely new structure.
The construction of the new building is possible because of voter support for the 2018 mill levy override.
“WPS is so grateful to the taxpayers for their support of our students that we thought it made great sense to celebrate with the community at the same time we break ground,” said James Duffy, Chief Operating Officer. “Schools are often the focal point for neighborhoods and this one will be no different. This building will be a community gathering place and point of pride.”
