Families Take Home Custom Crafts After CTE Holiday Makerspace Night
Families of all ages came together at the first Career & Technical Education (CTE) Makerspace Night to create custom crafts to decorate their homes with or give to a loved one. Children decorated cookies while adults worked on holiday pies, evergreen wreaths, LED ornaments and more. Families also dropped off their landscaping equipment such as trimmers, hedgers and blowers so that Agriculture Mechanics students could prepare these tools for winter storage and usage.
Makerspace Night was a chance for families to bring in the holiday season with some creativity. This was also an opportunity for CTE students to show their skills by helping facilitate these projects. This event gave students the chance to develop meaningful relationships with their community and focus on industry-relevant knowledge that prepares them for college and career opportunities after high school.
“The CTE students and staff were very welcoming and professional,” said Kathy Wiemer, director of human resources at Westminster Public Schools. “The dedication to their programs is clear and inspiring. I had so much fun and left with ornaments and a beautiful candle centerpiece, all of which are brightening the holiday décor in my home.”
CTE students are already looking forward to a second Makerspace Night in the spring, this time to focus on items for summer.
