Hundreds of Students Compete at the 2019 Westy’s Got Skills!

More than 350 students competed at Westy's Got Skills in January.  This participation doubles the number of student competitors since last year.  We thank and appreciate the nearly 100 industry partners who were on site to judge competitions.  This event serves as the preliminary round for aspiring students to qualify for the next level of competition within their CTE Student Organization (CTSO).  Students from each of our eight active CTSOs competed.  Each of these CTSOs has a focus on a specific industry cluster that includes areas like additive additive manufacturing (3D printing), construction, biotechnology, veterinary science, culinary arts, and engineering.  The feedback students receive from the judges is critical in their success at Regionals and/or State Competitions.  Students revise their projects based on this industry feedback and bring the enhanced work to the actual competitions.  The energy level at the awards ceremony that evening was tangible.  Students were proud of their achievements and we were proud of them as well!  Thank you to all that helped make the event such a huge success!
