Westy CTE Year at a Glance
Westy CTE has an exciting year ahead - full of opportunities to engage with our students and teachers! Our events are opportunities that allow students to demonstrate what they are learning in a fun and at times competitive setting. These events also help engage our community and industry partners in a meaningful way. Direct interaction contributes to the success of our students while in high school and beyond.
A new event we are hosting this year is Westy Dream, Plan, Do Day! (an internal career fair) on November 13th from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. The goal of this internal career fair is to educate current high school and middle school students about our various career pathways and extra-curricular offerings at WHS. Industry and post-secondary partners will be matched with students from corresponding CTE pathways so they can offer a more concrete view of opportunities in each industry and preparation for it that is available at WHS. The rest of the students will rotate through the event asking the exhibitors guided questions about how to be a part of the pathway while at WHS, how to enter that career field after high school, etc. This is a great opportunity to recruit future employees and market your company to our school and the broader community. If you are interested in being a part of this event, please submit your information by clicking here.
- CTE Advisory Board Meetings:
Each year, we meet with our industry partners, school administrators, teachers, and counselors to collaborate on how to strengthen and enrich our CTE programs. Our Advisory Board meetings for this year are October 16th and April 1st from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Westminster High School. Calendar invites with meeting details will be shared through Outlook with all industry partners.
- WHS CTE Dinner Theatre (Murder Mystery)
Looking for that perfect night out? How about attending the WHS Dinner Theatre on November 15th or 16th at 7:00 pm or the matinee on Sunday the 17th at 2:00 pm. Students in our culinary program will offer a delicious meal to accompany the who-done-it theatre event. Let us know if you would like tickets!
- Get Ready for the Holidays with our CTE Maker Space Night!
Make your own holiday gifts at the WHS Maker Space night December 3rd from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at WHS.
- Westy’s Got Skills
This full-CTE event brings students from every program into a District-level competition that determines which students will advance to Regional and State competitions in their pathway. We need judges willing to review student work and determine the best work for each pathway. A sign-up link will be sent to advisory board members November. The event is January 16th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. You are welcome to stay after the judging is complete to watch the awards program at 4pm!
- CTE Signing Day
This event honors graduating seniors who have obtained an industry credential while in high school, are enrolled in a trade school or college, and/or have already accepted a job in their chosen career field. The event will be held on April 30th from 8:45 am - 9:30 am in the Westminster High School theater. All industry partners and community members are invited to attend.
- Westminster High School Plant Sale and Spring Festival:
Our annual plant sale will be held this year on April 25th and May 9th from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. This is the perfect time to get your house and yard “summer ready” and support Westy CTE. Students work throughout the year to create products that will be on sale. This year, our CTE team is also adding another special event to the WHS Plant Sale. We are hosting our first Spring Festival in conjunction with the plant sale on May 9th. This event will be a collaboration between CTE and our WHS Arts Program. Bring your friends and family to take part in the festivities that will range from face painting, musical performances, games, etc. This also happens to be the perfect opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day!
All events can be found on our CTE calendar. Email or call Lottie Wilson, CTE Administrator, for any additional information.
