Number of Students Earning Industry Credentials at WHS is on the Rise!
A true demonstration of student industry readiness is the successful passing by students of credential exams that are industry-specific, necessary for entry-level positions and take considerable instructional time to prepare to take. WHS CTE is proud of the performance of our students in 2018-2019. Fifty-three students earned credentials that included ProStart (culinary arts), Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Certified Associate, Revit, Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Office - Word and Excel, IT Fundamentals and MTA: Security Fundamentals. The number of certifications earned by our students more than doubled since the 2016-2017 school year, which was our first year participating in the program. The Incentives to Complete Career Development Courses Program was created by HB 16-1289. It provided schools with incentives to encourage students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 to enroll in and successfully complete identified industry-certificate, internship and pre-apprenticeship programs related to top jobs or jobs in other high-demand industries and computer science advanced placement courses.
Each year the list of eligible certificates grows based on submissions to the Colorado Department of Labor and Colorado Department of Education that is reviewed and approved by industry professionals within the relevant field. WPS CTE continually adds more certification opportunities to the program pathways in order to better ensure our graduates have what it takes to get started in their chosen career.
