Career and Technical Education programs allow students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge - competitively!

Do our students have what it takes?

You be the judge!  This is the third year for our  Westy’s Got Skills (WGS) competition and we know it will be bigger and better with your help!  WGS provides an opportunity for our students to present their projects, compete against peers, and receive professional feedback on their projects before moving to the next level of competition.  This is a unique opportunity for our community members, industry partners and district employees to engage with students in a competitive and supportive environment ensuring the students are better prepared for regional and state-level competitions.

Last year, several of our students received top level awards and recognitions at the regional and state competitions.  These achievements would not have been possible without the guidance and support of our industry partners.  WHS students placed in the following categories:

  • Technology Student Association (TSA):
    • 1st place for Architectural Design
    • 2nd place for Empathy in Engineering.
  • SkillsUSA:
    • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Video Game Design
    • 2nd and 3rd for Information Tech Services
    • 1st and 2nd for Cyber Security
    • 1st in HVAC
    • 2nd in TV Production
    • 2nd in Digital Cinema Production

You are invited to be a judge for Westy’s Got Skills this year!  Please be a part of this exciting event and help shape the professionalism of students preparing for your industry at the same time!  Come and spend the afternoon with us on January 15th. If interested, please submit your contact information using the link below.  If you were at the fall CTE advisory board meeting and expressed interest then, you do not need to sign up a second time.

Each of our Career Tech Ed (CTE) pathways is represented at the competition.  You don't have to be an expert in the area to be a judge. Judges will attend a brief orientation starting at 1:00 to check in, review scoring guides, etc.  This will give you time to learn more about the actual competition and how to score the projects and presentations. Snacks and drinks will be provided during check-in. Here are our pathways:

Animal Science

Family and Consumer Sciences

Graphic Design

Health Occupations

Plant Science

PSTS (Power, Structural, and Technical Systems)

Video Cinema Arts

If you are interested in being a judge, please submit your information by clicking hereIdentify the top 3 program choices (see above) you are interested in judging.  Your final judging assignment will be emailed to you in early January.
