Westy Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members have been busy lending a hand to the community! With more than 100 active members, our leaders have volunteered over a thousand hours of their free time at the following events: Early Childhood Center Fall Festival, Hodgkins Trunk or Treat, provided childcare to parents in the district at the ECC and Harris Park during their Parent Academy for Success (PASS) meeting, cleaned up trash and debris at Hidden Lake Open Space and by the Westy Greenhouse, visited elders with dementia and Alzheimer’s, provided doll therapy at Greenridge Memory Care, packed sack lunches for the homeless at Growing Home Denver, donated money to Denver Rescue Mission for families in need of a Thanksgiving meal, wrote gratitude letters to soldiers overseas, organized a holiday canned food drive, and have about 15 active Reading Partners at Harris Park, Skyline Vista and FM Day Elementary Schools. Each member is required to complete 10 hours of community service per year in order to stay active in the chapter. Well over half of our members have already fulfilled their community service requirements before the end of the semester. We are so proud of our members for giving back to their community and we plan for this to continue at WHS for years to come!
