WHS Students Prepare for Internships with the City of Westminster
Westminster High School is providing opportunities for students to have a semester-long internship within the Westminster community. Internship is a full year course. During the fall semester, the students enroll in the Internship Preparation class before they participate in the Internship Placement in the spring semester. The preparation class provides an opportunity for the students to develop their interviewing skills, resume, professional emailing skills, public speaking skills, organizational skills and even tour area employers. During the first semester class, Westminster High school students toured the Google office in Boulder. Students were provided with insights into the professional life of a “Googler.” Employees described the high-speed, high expectations of their professional environment and also the fun working environment at Google. Students also attended a job fair sponsored by the City of Westminster. They met with city employees and learned about the different departments and internship opportunities at the City of Westminster. This is a competitive opportunity where students from multiple districts applied for positions of interest to them and, if selected, engaged in a professional interview process. Two Westminster High school students were selected for internship positions with the City. Other WHS students accepted internships in the medical, mechanical, and cosmetology fields within the Westminster community.
