Sophomore Parents - Join Us For The CareerWise Colorado Info Session on Wednesday!

Parent/guardian of a sophomore at Westminster Public Schools,

In order to offer as many work and college-related opportunities as possible to our students, Westminster Public Schools is now part of a statewide, modern youth apprenticeship program called CareerWise Colorado. This program pairs businesses who want to build a strong, trained workforce with students who want paid, on-the-job training in an industry of interest, and creates mutually beneficial experiences for both in the following industries:

  • Healthcare
  • Manufacturing
  • Business Operations
  • Information Technology
  • Financial Services

This program is a three-year commitment by students, employers and school districts to select, train and educate students interested in careers that allows students to work, complete high school and attend college simultaneously.

As a parent of a sophomore student who may be eligible to apply for this program, you are invited to attend a general information session in the Lecture Hall at Westminster High School on November 14th from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Westminster High School is located at 6933 Raleigh Street, Westminster, CO 80030.

In this session, you will learn details about the apprenticeship opportunities available, the application process, and the advantages/expectations of students who are accepted into the program. Students who choose to apply for the program will interview for positions, and employers will select students to hire. Any student hired will be paid to work approximately 16 hours per week in year one – this amount of time will increase, along with the student’s salary, over the next two year. Students are also able to take college courses in their second and third years of the program to earn an industry-recognized credential. At the end of the three-year period, students may be offered full-time employment. It is entirely up to them and the employer whether they will stay full or part-time or will move on to another career that better suits them.

Because of the depth of the commitment, parents/guardians are also required to approve their child’s enrollment in the program. Any student formally applying for this opportunity will need parent/guardian approval.

For more information, please attend the orientation on Wednesday, November 14th at 5:30 pm or contact Yvette De La Cruz 303.657.3929 in the Future Center at Westminster High School.
