Chris Thornburg is one of two FFA advisors at Westminster High School. He teaches Veterinary Science, Floriculture, Plant Science/Greenhouse Management, and Introduction to Agriculture. He grew up having an agriculture background from being raised in the small town of Bennett east of Denver (the Thornburgs have been in Bennett for over 100 years now)! In addition, Thornburg's Bachelor's degree was in Landscape Horticulture from Colorado State University, so he feels his new position this year at Westminster High School is like coming home in a way, as he was working for landscaping companies and nurseries before becoming a teacher. This is his 14th year in Westminster Public Schools, having previously spent 12 years at Ranum Middle School, and last year at Shaw Heights Middle School. His favorite part about working with students is seeing their confidence grow over time and trying to be a positive influence in their lives, no matter what content he's teaching them. Thornburg stated, "It's been a very nice experience to have many of my former Ranum and Shaw kiddos come up to me excited to see me working here at Westminster High School now!" Thornburg's wife works at Children's Hospital of Colorado, and they have two wonderful daughters, one 3-year-old and one 3-month-old. Thornburg loves hanging out with his family in his free time but also loves woodworking, snowboarding, and hiking. He has hiked about half of Colorado's 14-teeners or taller mountains in addition to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa!
