Westminster Academy Gets a Taste of Different Cultures at International Night
Ethnic foods from Ecuador, China, Venezuela, Korea, Italy, India, Mexico, Germany and more filled Westminster Academy for the school’s Fourth Annual International Night on Nov. 19. The night wouldn’t be possible without the help of families who contributed meals and local businesses like Valente’s that donated food for the event.
“We were so overwhelmed by their offerings we had to quickly move two more tables to hold all the food,” said Russ Warwick, principal at Westminster Academy for International Studies.
After families sampled meals from around the world, a flash mob made up of Westminster Academy students and teachers surprised families with a dance routine. City of Westminster Mayor, Herb Atchison welcomed families and introduced a series of performances and dance routines from two Hmong dance groups, Nxthais Ntsiab Si and Ntxhais Paj Hnub Hli, a Polynesian act by the Bella Diva Company, a Mongolian dance by the Jasmine Flower Chinese Dance, a few opera pieces by the Bel Canto Legacy Opera group and a performance by Westminster High School band students.
