Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy and Compact

This policy and compact has been jointly developed and agreed upon by Colorado Sports Leadership Academy (CSLA) and parents of its students.

Parental Involvement Policy

The administration, staff and parents of CSLA believe that the improved academic achievement of each student is a responsibility shared by the entire community, including the school district, school, community members, school administration, staff, students and parents (including guardians and all members of a student’s family involved in his/her education). We are committed to meeting the needs of all our students. To accomplish this, we must all work together.

Parent involvement in the school will include opportunities for:

· Parents to be involved in school activities

· Effective communication between the school and parents

· Parents to participate in school decision-making

· Staff development and parent education

· Parents to provide home support for their student’s education

Title 1 School/Parent Compact

The goal of the Title 1 program is to help every child get a high-quality education. The school’s administration, staff, parents, and students each have responsibilities they must meet in order to accomplish this.

As a student, I promise to….

· come to school every day and be prepared to learn and participate

· ask for help when I need it

· respect and cooperate with other students and adults

· do my homework and participate in a home reading program

· set goals and self assess my learning and behaviors

As a parent, I promise to….

· help my child attend school every day

· find a quiet place for my child to read and complete homework

· read to and with my child on a regular basis

· provide enriching learning experiences at home

· assist my child with a home reading program

· participate in Parent Teacher Conferences

· communicate regularly with the school, principal, and teachers

· participate in decisions related to my child’s education and achievement, as appropriate

· be involved in school activities

As a school, we promise to….

· provide a challenging academic curriculum and explain the proficiency scales to parents each year

· help parents understand the way the learning targets are assessed and how they can help their child achieve these goals

· be available to support reasonable requests, suggestions, and questions in regard to Title 1 policies and responsibilities

· provide a Title night where parents can learn more about what it means to be a Title school

· provide multiple opportunities, at convenient times, for parents to build a partnership with the school, where the school will provide materials and reciprocal training to assist the parents in promoting their students’ academic achievement (i.e.: Parent Teacher Conferences, Literacy/Math Game Night, Adult Education courses , Curriculum Nights, Coffee with the Principal, Home Reading Program, Decision Making Meetings with PTA in both Spanish and English, Family Surveys, BAAC, School Newsletters, Thursday Folders sent home weekly by home room teachers)

· provide extended learning opportunities (i.e. Science Club/Fair, Geography Club, Spelling Club)

· invite parents to plan and review the UIP (Unified School Improvement Plan) and Parent Involvement Policy each year at PTA meetings

· provide communication to parents in a language they can understand

· meet students’ needs through a variety of instructional approaches such as, Bilingual Education, Leveled Literacy and Math Classrooms, SIOP-Sheltered Instructional Observational Protocol, Zoo-Phonics, LLI –Leveled Literacy Intervention, CBS Instruction- Curriculum Based Standards, Data Notebooks, WFTB- Write From the Beginning, Thinking Maps, McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders, PSI- Progressive Science Initiative, PMI-Progressive Math Initiative, Focused Language Blocks, Weekly Book Clubs, RTI strategies-Response To Intervention, On Our Way to English provided by CLD teachers, Kagan cooperative structures, Preschool and Full Day Kindergarten
