Hidden Lake High School has a new mascot, complete with a superhero cape and school colors that fully captures what it means to be a part of the school community.
As an alternative high school, Hidden Lake helps students chart their own educational journey and earn that all-important high school diploma. Many of Hidden Lake’s students had trouble embracing a traditional high school program or faced life challenges that left them needing an alternative approach.
The superhero in the logo, who can be either a male or female, captures the spirit of resilience that defines Hidden Lake students.
The hero concept was adopted by the staff and students of Hidden Lake High School during the 2007-08 school year and is inspired by a scene from the movie “Freedom Writers” where students talk with a woman whose family hid Anne Frank from the Gestapo during World War II.
"It always amazes me the strength and persistence that students demonstrate when they are treated with dignity and respect,” said Principal James Steward. ”Their story does not define them but makes the student who they are today. Truly building the relationship first creates a hero that becomes bigger than their story."
