New Westy Football Coach Excited About the Future
Dayne Allbrant, the new head coach for the Westminster Wolves football team, is a big proponent of the idea that the game is about more than wins and losses.
He will tell you that what happens on the field and in the locker room provides life lessons that continue long after the season ends, long after the players have hung up their shoulder pads.
“As the year goes on different leaders are going to step up at all different ages,” he said. “They are learning from each other and bringing out the best.”
Now entering his first season Allbrant, is excited for his players to take what they have learned in practice and apply it to the games. He guarantees that he will put a competitive team on the field. “This year the Westminster community can expect to see a team that’s never going to quit.” He said. “No matter where we are and even if we're backed up against a wall, we’re going to grind it out.”
Allbrant knows his student-athletes well. Before being named head coach, he was an assistant seven years, as well as head JV coach for the last four years. He knows the players and he knows what kind of team he wants on the field. “We are going to run to that football. We are going to be efficient, the players are going to grow and learn. So it should be a lot of smiling and a lot of jumping around and having fun and just growing, and taking the opportunity every day to get better,” he said recently.
Allbrant is also around these kids each day during the school year as he has been a science teacher at Westminster High School for the past seven years.
“Getting to see the students every day, we can have the opportunity to see how they are doing and just let them know, we’re here for them.”
The Wolves dropped this past Friday's home non-conference game against Skyline (Longmont, CO) by a score of 37-6. They return to action this upcoming Friday night away against Far Northeast. Click here to view the entire 2019 varsity football schedule.
