With a strong finish to the regular season, the Westminster Wolves girls basketball team qualified for the state playoffs before losing to Highlands Ranch High School on Tuesday night in the first round of the playoffs. The Wolves lost to the Falcons 52-39, who are the 10th ranked team in the state.

“It was a really good game,” said Jesse Hernandez, the school’s Athletic Director. “Down the stretch it turned into a free throw shooting contest, but we played really well against a very good team.”

The team finished the regular season with a 14-10 record, winning nine of their last 12 games.

It was a special season for the team, which saw senior Lex Trujillo break the team record for three-point baskets in a season and career. Lex, who will be playing at Metropolitan State University next year, scored a career high 46 points in the February 10 game against Kennedy High School. During the game she made 14 three-point baskets on her way to setting the team record.

The team also had a chance to play at Ball Arena, a day members of the team say they will remember the rest of their lives.

Congratulations to the Wolves on a great season!
