Although some absences are unavoidable, it is important that students attend school as often as possible. Preschool is a great time to start building a habit of good attendance. Please note that we are allowing days for students to be absent for illness and do not want families to send children to school sick.
In addition, it is especially important during the last week of October and first week of November that we have excellent attendance. This is our “count” week and we need to be sure that all students are in attendance to ensure accurate reporting for our program.
Change in Calendar
There has been a change in the district calendar. The non-student contact day originally scheduled for April 27 has been moved to May 4. There will be regular classes on April 27 and no school for students on May 4.
A big “Thanks” to all who attended our first PTO meeting! It was very nice to see so many school community members participating! We welcome you back and invite all families who would like to participate to our next PTO meeting on Oct. 9th. At the next meeting, we will be planning the Fall Carnival. If you are unable to attend meetings, you can still help the PTO. You may also “friend” and “like” us on Facebook at ECCPTO. Hope to see you there!
The ECC PTO will be putting on our eighth annual Preschool Fall Carnival on Thursday, October 30th from 5-6:30 PM. This carnival is intended for children ages 3-5, but all are welcome to come! There will be games, food, fun and a trick-or-treat street. We will be asking for donations to hand out during trick-or-treat street (candy, pencils, erasers, spider rings, etc.). Please keep your eyes out for additional information to follow about this event and we hope to see you all there! Students will also have a “Book Character Day” parade during the day at 10:00 and 2:00. Please bring costumes/books to school and students will be allowed to change prior to the parade. If you would like your child to participate in an alternative activity please let your child’s teacher know.
Late Start Days
Parents should have received an automated announcement from WPS about late start days due to weather. If a late start day is called for the district, the morning session will be cancelled for that day. Afternoon session will have a normal school day.
With the hope of keeping all families informed, I have decided to add a “building news” section to my monthly newsletters. This section will help keep families informed about things that are happening in the building each month, let you know what training our staff is completing each month, and any other important building information.
In September, we had our first fire drill and lock down drill. The Westminster Police department joined us for the lock down drill and were very impressed with how all of our classrooms followed procedures.
Preschool staff from around the district met in September to look at last years Teaching Strategies GOLD data and determine goals for the year.
